In developed countries, more and more children are becoming overweight. Some people believe that the main reason is the increasing number of fast food restaurants, while others think that parents are responsible. In my opinion, both factors play a part, but parents have the biggest responsibility.

On the one hand, fast food restaurants are partly to blame. Today, there are fast food shops on almost every street, near schools and in shopping centres. Fast food is cheap, tasty and quick, so children love it. However, it contains a lot of fat, sugar and salt, which can make children gain weight. In addition, fast food companies spend a lot of money on advertising for children, for example, by giving free toys with meals or using cartoon characters. This makes children want to eat fast food more often.

On the other hand, I believe that parents are more responsible for their children's health. Parents decide what food to buy and cook at home, and they can control how often their children eat fast food. However, many parents are busy with work, so they often buy fast food or ready meals because it is easier. Some parents also let their children eat sweets and drink soft drinks every day. Moreover, many parents allow their children to spend many hours watching TV or playing computer games instead of doing exercise or playing sports.

In my opinion, fast food restaurants make it easier for children to eat unhealthy food, but parents should teach their children good eating habits and encourage them to be active. If parents give their children healthy food at home and limit fast food, the problem can be reduced.

In conclusion, both fast food outlets and parents are responsible for the increase in overweight children, but I believe parents play the most important role.

Childhood obesity is rising in many developed nations. While some attribute this trend to the spread of fast food outlets, others hold parents responsible for neglecting their children's health. In my view, both factors contribute, but parents bear the greater share of the responsibility.

There is no doubt that the fast food industry has played a role in this problem. Fast food restaurants have multiplied in recent decades and are now found on almost every high street, often close to schools. Their products are cheap, convenient and appealing to children, but they are typically high in calories, fat, sugar and salt. Furthermore, these companies invest heavily in marketing aimed specifically at children, using cartoon characters, free toys and celebrity endorsements to create brand loyalty from a young age. In such an environment, it is not surprising that many children develop a preference for unhealthy food.

However, I believe that parents have a more direct influence on their children's health. It is parents who decide what food is bought and served at home, how often the family eats out and how much time children spend on sedentary activities. Unfortunately, many parents, often due to long working hours, rely on convenience foods and takeaways rather than preparing balanced meals. Some also use sweets as rewards or allow children unlimited access to sugary drinks. In addition, parents who allow their children to spend hours in front of screens, rather than encouraging sport or outdoor play, contribute to the problem.
