In many countries, children today eat differently and live differently from children in the past. Some people think that these changes have had a bad effect on children's health. I mostly agree with this opinion, although some changes have also been positive.

Firstly, children's eating habits have become less healthy. In the past, most children ate home-cooked meals with rice, vegetables, meat and fish. Today, many children eat fast food, such as hamburgers, fried chicken and pizza, and they drink a lot of soft drinks. These foods contain a lot of fat, sugar and salt, which can make children overweight. As a result, the number of overweight children has increased in many countries. Some children also have health problems like diabetes and high blood pressure, which were rare among children before.

Secondly, children's lifestyles are less active than before. In the past, children usually played outside with their friends, for example, running, playing football or riding bicycles. Nowadays, many children spend most of their free time watching TV, playing video games or using smartphones. Because they do not do enough exercise, they become unfit and unhealthy. Using screens for a long time can also cause eye problems and sleep problems.

However, some changes have been good for children's health. For example, today children have better medical care, more vaccines and cleaner water than in the past, so fewer children get sick or die from diseases. Many parents also know more about nutrition than before.

In conclusion, I mostly agree that the changes in children's eating habits and lifestyle have had a negative effect on their health, because they eat more unhealthy food and do less exercise. Parents and schools should encourage children to eat healthily and be more active.

In many parts of the world, children's diets and daily routines differ markedly from those of earlier generations. Some argue that these changes have harmed children's health. I largely agree with this view, although it is important to recognise that some aspects of modern life have improved children's well-being.

The most significant negative change concerns diet. Whereas previous generations mainly ate home-cooked meals based on fresh ingredients, many children today consume large quantities of processed food, fast food and sugary drinks. These products are high in calories, fat, sugar and salt but low in essential nutrients. Consequently, childhood obesity has risen sharply in many countries, and conditions such as type 2 diabetes, once almost unknown among young people, are becoming increasingly common.

This problem is made worse by the decline in physical activity. In the past, children typically spent much of their free time playing outdoors, walking or cycling to school and taking part in active games. Today, many children spend hours each day in front of televisions, computers and smartphones, while concerns about traffic and safety mean that they are often driven everywhere. This sedentary lifestyle not only contributes to weight gain but has also been linked to poor posture, eyesight problems, disrupted sleep and even anxiety.
