Nowadays, many young people take a year off after they finish school and before they start university. During this gap year, they often work or travel. Some people believe that this experience helps them when they go back to study. I mostly agree with this opinion.
Firstly, a gap year can help young people become more mature and independent. When they work or travel, they have to look after themselves, manage their money and solve problems without help from their parents or teachers. As a result, when they go to university, they are more responsible and they can manage their time better. Secondly, working during a gap year helps students to get useful skills and experience. For example, a student who works in a company can learn how to communicate with customers and work in a team. These skills can help them in their studies and in their future jobs. Thirdly, travelling to other countries helps young people learn about different cultures and maybe a new language, and this makes them more open-minded.
However, a gap year also has some disadvantages. Some students may lose the habit of studying, and it can be difficult for them to go back to studying after one year. Others may waste their time and do nothing useful. In addition, travelling can be very expensive, so not all students can afford it.
In my opinion, a gap year is useful if students plan it carefully and use the time to learn new things.
In conclusion, I agree that a gap year can benefit young people when they return to education, because it helps them become more mature and gain useful skills, although it also has some risks.
