Some people say that the main difference between young people today and their parents or grandparents is that young people do not do enough physical exercise. They spend too much time playing computer games, chatting on social media and watching TV. I mostly agree with this opinion.

Firstly, it is true that young people today spend a lot of time in front of screens. Smartphones, computers and game consoles are very popular, and many teenagers use them for several hours every day. For example, many students in my country play online games after school instead of going outside to play sports. In the past, children did not have these devices, so they spent their free time playing outside with their friends, riding bicycles or helping their parents on the farm. Secondly, many young people today travel by car or bus to school, while in the past many children had to walk or cycle a long way. As a result, young people today are less active, and more of them have health problems such as obesity.

However, I do not think that this is true for all young people. Many young people still enjoy sports, such as football, basketball or swimming, and many of them go to the gym regularly. In addition, some modern games, like dance games, can also help young people to be active.

In my opinion, parents and schools should encourage young people to spend less time on screens and do more exercise.

In conclusion, I agree that young people today are generally less active than older generations because of technology, but this is not true for every young person.

It is often claimed that the key difference between today's young people and previous generations is their lack of physical activity, as they spend excessive amounts of time on computer games, social media and television. While I agree that this is a significant trend, I believe it is an overgeneralisation to suggest that it applies to all young people.

There is considerable evidence that young people today are less physically active than their parents and grandparents were at the same age. The widespread availability of smartphones, games consoles and streaming services means that many children and teenagers spend several hours a day in front of screens. In contrast, previous generations, who had far fewer forms of indoor entertainment, typically spent much of their free time playing outdoors. In addition, lifestyle changes such as being driven to school rather than walking, and growing concerns about safety, have reduced opportunities for everyday physical activity. The consequences are visible in rising rates of childhood obesity and related health problems in many countries.

However, it would be inaccurate to describe the entire younger generation as inactive. Participation in organised sports, gym memberships and fitness activities remains high among many young people, and some are more health-conscious than previous generations. Furthermore, the older generations were not always more active by choice; physical activity was often a result of manual work or the lack of transport, rather than a deliberate lifestyle.
