Nowadays, people are producing more and more rubbish, and this has become a serious problem in many countries. In this essay, I will explain the reasons for this problem and suggest what governments can do to reduce it.
There are several reasons why we produce more rubbish today. Firstly, the population of the world is increasing, and more people means more waste. Secondly, people today buy more things than in the past, because they have more money and shopping is easier, especially online. Many products, such as clothes, phones and electronic devices, are cheap and are thrown away after a short time. Thirdly, most products are sold with a lot of packaging, especially plastic. For example, when we buy food in a supermarket, it is often wrapped in plastic bags, boxes and bottles, which we throw away immediately. Finally, many people use disposable items, such as plastic cups, straws and takeaway boxes, because they are convenient.
Governments can do many things to reduce the amount of rubbish. Firstly, they can introduce laws to reduce packaging. For example, they can ban single-use plastic bags and straws, or make companies pay a tax if they use too much packaging. Secondly, governments should encourage recycling by providing recycling bins in every street and teaching people how to separate their rubbish. Thirdly, they can make people pay for the amount of rubbish they throw away, so people will try to produce less. Moreover, governments can run campaigns on TV and social media to educate people about the problem and encourage them to reuse things.
In conclusion, we produce more rubbish because of population growth, consumerism, packaging and disposable products. Governments can reduce rubbish by making laws, encouraging recycling and educating people.
