Some people believe that the world should have one official international language, while others think that this will make countries less different and cause a loss of culture. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my own opinion.
On the one hand, having a single international language has many advantages. Firstly, it makes communication between people from different countries much easier. For example, business people, tourists and scientists could talk to each other without needing a translator. Secondly, it would help international cooperation, because governments and organisations could understand each other clearly, so there would be fewer misunderstandings. Thirdly, students could study in any country and find information more easily. Nowadays, English is already used as an international language in many areas, such as business, science and the internet.
On the other hand, some people are worried that a single international language may cause problems. Language is an important part of a country's culture and identity. If everyone uses the same language, people, especially young people, may stop using their own language. As a result, some languages may disappear, and with them, traditional songs, stories and customs. In fact, many small languages in the world are already disappearing. Moreover, countries might become too similar, and the world would lose its cultural variety.
In my opinion, it is useful to have one international language for communication, but people should also keep their own language. For example, people can learn English as a second language for work and travel, but they should still speak their mother tongue at home and learn about their own culture at school.
In conclusion, a single international language can help communication, but we must protect local languages and cultures at the same time.
