Some people believe that schoolchildren are becoming too dependent on computers, and that this is having a bad effect on their reading and writing skills. They think teachers should stop using computers in the classroom and go back to teaching basic study skills. I partly agree with this opinion, but I do not think computers should be completely removed from classrooms.
On the one hand, it is true that using computers too much can harm children's reading and writing skills. Many children use spell checkers and autocorrect, so they do not learn how to spell words correctly. They also type more than they write by hand, so their handwriting becomes worse. In addition, children often read short texts on the internet and social media, so they may not be able to concentrate on long books. Some students also copy information from the internet instead of writing their own ideas.
On the other hand, I do not think teachers should avoid computers at all costs. Computers are very useful learning tools. They help students to find information quickly, watch educational videos and practise skills with interactive programs. Moreover, computer skills are very important for students' future jobs, because almost every job today requires using computers. If schools do not teach computer skills, students will not be prepared for the modern world.
In my opinion, teachers should use a balance of computers and traditional methods. Students should still practise handwriting, read books and write essays by hand, but they should also learn how to use computers in a useful way.
In conclusion, I partly agree that children are too dependent on computers, but I disagree that teachers should avoid using computers completely. A balanced approach is the best way.
