Most writers of novels and stories cannot earn enough money from their writing to live. Some people think that the government should give them financial support to encourage good literature. I partly agree with this idea, but I think the support should be limited and given carefully.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why the government should support writers. Firstly, literature is an important part of a country's culture. Good novels, poems and stories help to protect a country's language, history and values, and they help people to understand themselves and others. For example, famous Vietnamese works such as "The Tale of Kieu" are still read and loved today. Secondly, writing a good book takes a long time, sometimes several years. If writers have to work at other jobs to earn money, they may not have enough time to write. Financial help can give them time to focus on their work. Thirdly, without support, many talented writers may give up writing, and the country may lose many good books.
On the other hand, there are some problems with giving money to writers. Firstly, the government has limited money, and there are many more important needs, such as healthcare, education and helping poor people. Secondly, it is difficult to decide which writers should receive money, because it is not easy to judge what is "good literature". Thirdly, if writers depend on the government for money, they may not feel free to criticise the government in their work.
In my opinion, the government should provide some support, such as grants, prizes and scholarships for talented writers, but the money should be decided by independent experts, not by politicians.
In conclusion, I partly agree that the government should help fiction writers, because literature is important for culture, but the support should be limited and fair.
