Nowadays, many parents are very busy because of modern lifestyles, so they do not have much time for their children. Some people believe that many children suffer because they get less attention from their parents than children in the past. I partly agree with this opinion.

On the one hand, it is true that many parents today have less time for their children. In many families, both parents work full-time, and some of them work long hours or travel for business. When they come home, they are tired and they still have to do housework. As a result, they do not have enough time to talk to their children, help them with homework or play with them. Some children spend a lot of time alone or with babysitters, and they may feel lonely. Some of them spend too much time on the internet or playing games, and they may have problems at school or with their behaviour.

On the other hand, I do not think that all children today get less attention than in the past. In the past, many families had many children, so parents could not give much attention to each child. Many parents also worked very hard on farms or in factories for long hours. Today, families are smaller, so parents can focus more on each child. In addition, many fathers today spend more time with their children than fathers in the past.

In my opinion, the quality of time is more important than the amount of time. Even if parents are busy, they can spend quality time with their children, for example by having dinner together or doing activities at the weekend.

In conclusion, I partly agree that some children suffer because their parents are too busy, but I do not think this is true for all children.

It is often argued that the demands of modern life leave parents with little time for their children, and that children today receive less parental attention than in the past. While I agree that many parents face significant time pressures, I do not believe that children today are necessarily worse off than previous generations.

There is some truth in the claim. In many families, both parents now work, often for long hours, and lengthy commutes further reduce the time they spend at home. Work increasingly extends into evenings and weekends through smartphones and emails, so that even when parents are physically present, they may be distracted. As a result, some children may lack emotional support and supervision, which can affect their well-being, behaviour and academic performance. Some may spend excessive time on screens as a substitute for interaction with their parents.

However, the idea that children received more attention in the past is questionable. In earlier generations, families were often larger, so parents had to divide their attention among many children. Many parents worked long hours in physically demanding jobs, and childcare was often left to older siblings or relatives. Furthermore, research in several countries suggests that parents today actually spend more time engaged in activities with their children than parents did several decades ago, partly because fathers are now much more involved in childcare. Modern parents also tend to place greater emphasis on their children's emotional development and education.
