Everyone agrees that society benefits from the work of its members. Artists and scientists both make important contributions to society, but in different ways. In this essay, I will compare their contributions and explain which one is valued more in my country, Vietnam.
Artists, such as painters, musicians, writers and filmmakers, make our lives more beautiful and meaningful. Their work helps people to relax and enjoy themselves after a hard day. For example, listening to music or watching a good film can make us feel happy and reduce stress. Artists also help to protect and share a country's culture and history. For instance, traditional Vietnamese music and paintings show the life and values of our ancestors. Moreover, art can make people think about important social problems, such as poverty or war.
Scientists, on the other hand, make more practical contributions. They discover new knowledge and invent new technologies that improve people's lives. For example, scientists have developed vaccines and medicines that save millions of lives. They have also created new technology, such as computers, smartphones and the internet, which make our work and communication easier. In addition, scientists help to solve big problems, such as climate change and food shortages.
In my opinion, in Vietnam, the contributions of scientists are valued more than those of artists. Firstly, Vietnam is a developing country, so people believe that science and technology are necessary for economic development. Secondly, parents usually encourage their children to study science subjects, such as mathematics, physics and information technology, because these subjects can lead to well-paid jobs. Many parents think that being an artist is not a stable career.
In conclusion, both artists and scientists make valuable contributions to society. However, in my country, scientists are valued more because their work is seen as more useful for development.
