Some people believe that businesses should do anything they can to make a profit. I disagree with this statement. Although making a profit is the main goal of a business, companies should not do anything that is illegal, unethical or harmful to society.
On the one hand, I understand why profit is important for businesses. Without profit, a company cannot survive. It needs money to pay its employees, buy materials, develop new products and grow. Profitable businesses also create jobs and pay taxes, which help the economy and society. For example, large companies like Samsung employ thousands of people in Vietnam and contribute a lot to the economy.
On the other hand, I believe that businesses should not do anything just to make money. Firstly, some companies harm the environment to save money. For example, some factories dump chemical waste into rivers instead of treating it properly, which pollutes the water and makes local people sick. Secondly, some businesses treat their workers badly. They pay very low wages, make workers work very long hours or ignore safety rules, which can cause accidents. Thirdly, some companies cheat their customers by selling poor-quality or dangerous products, or by giving false information in their advertisements. For example, some food companies have sold food with harmful chemicals, which damaged people's health.
In my opinion, businesses should make a profit in an honest and responsible way. They should follow the law, treat their workers and customers fairly and protect the environment. In fact, responsible companies often have a better reputation, so customers trust them and buy more of their products, which helps them to make more profit in the long term.
In conclusion, I disagree that businesses should do anything to make a profit. Profit is important, but businesses also have a responsibility to society.
