Today, young people are under a lot of pressure to do well in their studies. Because of this, some people think that schools should remove non-academic subjects, such as physical education and cooking, so that students can focus only on academic subjects. I disagree with this opinion for several reasons.
On the one hand, I understand why some people support this idea. Academic subjects, such as mathematics, science and English, are very important for students' exams and future careers. Students have to compete for places at good universities and for good jobs. If they spend less time on non-academic subjects, they will have more time to study academic subjects and may get better grades.
On the other hand, I believe that non-academic subjects are very important. Firstly, physical education helps students to stay healthy and fit. Many young people today spend a lot of time sitting at their desks or using computers, so they do not get enough exercise. PE lessons help them to be active and reduce the risk of obesity. Exercise can also reduce stress and help students to concentrate better in other lessons. Secondly, cookery teaches students useful life skills. When they grow up and live alone, they will need to know how to cook healthy meals. Thirdly, non-academic subjects such as art, music and sports help students to develop creativity, teamwork and confidence. Not every student is good at academic subjects, and these subjects give them a chance to discover their talents.
In my opinion, schools should keep a balance between academic and non-academic subjects, so that students can develop in every way.
In conclusion, I disagree that non-academic subjects should be removed from the school curriculum, because they help students to be healthy, learn life skills and develop their talents.
