Many people believe that the violence shown on TV and in films influences young people's behaviour and increases violence in society. I partly agree with this statement. In this essay, I will explain my opinion and suggest some ways to reduce violence in society.
On the one hand, I agree that violent TV programmes and films can affect young people. Children and teenagers often copy what they see on screen. If they watch many violent films, they may think that violence is normal or a good way to solve problems. For example, some children copy fighting scenes from action films and hurt their friends. In addition, watching a lot of violence can make young people less sensitive to other people's pain.
On the other hand, I do not think that TV and films are the main cause of violence in society. Millions of people watch action films, but most of them never become violent. There are other, more important causes of violence, such as poverty, unemployment, drugs, alcohol and problems in the family. For example, children who grow up in violent families are much more likely to become violent themselves.
There are several things that can be done to reduce violence in society. Firstly, parents should control what their children watch and talk to them about the difference between films and real life. Secondly, the government should have a rating system for films and TV programmes and should not allow violent programmes to be shown when children are watching. Thirdly, governments should try to reduce poverty and unemployment by creating jobs and improving education. Finally, schools should teach children how to solve problems peacefully.
In conclusion, I partly agree that violence on TV and in films can increase violence among young people, but other factors are more important. We need to solve these problems to reduce violence in society.
