The role of women in society has changed a lot in the last twenty years. Today, many married women go out to work. Some people believe that many problems of young people, such as juvenile crime, happen because mothers work and are not at home to take care of their children. I disagree with this opinion.

On the one hand, I understand why some people think this way. When both parents work full-time, children may spend a lot of time alone at home or with friends without adult supervision. Some children may feel lonely or ignored, and they may be influenced by bad friends and start doing bad things, such as skipping school, smoking or stealing. In the past, when mothers stayed at home, they could watch their children all the time and give them more attention.

On the other hand, I believe that working mothers are not the main cause of young people's problems. Firstly, it is unfair to blame only mothers, because fathers also have a responsibility to take care of their children. Secondly, there are many other causes of juvenile crime, such as poverty, family problems, drugs, violent films and games, and bad friends. For example, children from poor families or families where parents often argue are more likely to have problems. Thirdly, many children of working mothers grow up to be good and successful people. Working mothers can be good role models for their children, showing them the value of hard work. In addition, many families need two incomes to pay for housing, food and education.

In my opinion, the quality of time parents spend with their children is more important than the amount of time.

In conclusion, I disagree that young people's problems are caused by working mothers. Both parents, schools and society should work together to help young people.

Over the past twenty years, the role of women in society has changed dramatically, with a far greater proportion of married women now in paid employment. Some people claim that this is the main reason for problems among young people, such as juvenile delinquency, as mothers are no longer at home to supervise their children. I strongly disagree with this view.

It is true that changes in family life may have affected children in some ways. When both parents work long hours, children may spend more time unsupervised, and some may feel neglected or turn to peer groups for attention and a sense of belonging. Without adequate supervision, a minority may become involved in antisocial or criminal behaviour.

However, blaming working mothers for juvenile delinquency is both inaccurate and unfair. Firstly, it assumes that childcare is solely the responsibility of women, ignoring the equal role and responsibility of fathers. If lack of supervision is a problem, it is a problem for both parents, as well as for society, which often fails to provide affordable childcare and after-school activities. Secondly, research suggests that the main causes of youth crime are complex and include poverty, family breakdown, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, poor education and lack of opportunities. Many of these factors have little to do with whether a mother works. Thirdly, in many cases, mothers' employment actually benefits children. A second income can lift families out of poverty, which is itself a significant risk factor for delinquency, and working mothers can serve as positive role models, demonstrating independence and the value of hard work. Indeed, countries with high levels of female employment, such as those in Scandinavia, do not necessarily have higher rates of youth crime.
