Successful sportspeople can earn much more money than people in other important jobs, such as doctors, nurses and teachers. Some people think this is fair, while others believe it is unfair. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my opinion.
On the one hand, some people believe that high salaries for sports stars are fair. Firstly, top athletes have special talents, and only a very small number of people can play at that level. They also have to train very hard for many years, often from childhood. Secondly, their careers are very short. Most athletes retire in their thirties, so they need to earn a lot of money while they can. Thirdly, sports stars bring a lot of money to their clubs and sponsors, because millions of fans buy tickets, watch matches on TV and buy products with their names. So, it is fair that they get a share of this money.
On the other hand, other people think it is unfair. Doctors save lives, teachers educate children and nurses take care of sick people, and these jobs are more important to society than playing sport. However, these workers often earn much less money. For example, a top footballer can earn more money in one week than a nurse earns in several years. This shows that society does not value important jobs enough.
In my opinion, I can understand why sports stars earn a lot of money, but I think that the difference is too big. The government should pay more to people in important jobs like doctors, nurses and teachers.
In conclusion, although sports stars have special talents and short careers, I believe that their very high salaries are unfair compared with other important professions.
