Many schools organise competitive sports for teenagers, such as football or basketball competitions. Some people think that these sports have a good effect on the education of teenagers, while others believe that they have a bad effect. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my opinion.
On the one hand, competitive sports can have a negative effect on teenagers' education. Firstly, students who play in sports teams have to practise many hours every week, so they may not have enough time to study and do their homework. As a result, their marks at school may become lower. Secondly, competition can make some teenagers feel stressed, especially when they lose a match. Some students may also become too aggressive because they only want to win.
On the other hand, competitive sports have many positive effects. Firstly, playing sports helps teenagers to be healthy and fit, and a healthy body can help them to study better. Secondly, team sports teach important skills such as teamwork, leadership and communication. For example, when students play football, they must work together and support each other to win. Thirdly, competitive sports teach teenagers how to deal with success and failure, which is an important lesson for their future life. Moreover, students who are good at sports may get scholarships to study at university.
In my opinion, competitive sports have more positive effects than negative effects. However, schools and parents should make sure that teenagers have a good balance between sports and study.
In conclusion, although competitive sports can take time away from studying and cause stress, I believe they have a positive effect on the education of teenagers.
