Some people believe that children should start formal education at a very young age and spend most of their time studying. Others think that young children should spend most of their time playing. In this essay, I will compare these two views and explain why I agree with the second view.
On the one hand, some people believe that children should start school early. Firstly, young children learn very quickly, so it is a good time for them to learn reading, writing, mathematics and foreign languages. For example, many parents in my country send their children to English classes when they are only four or five years old. Secondly, children who start studying early may have an advantage over other children when they go to primary school. Thirdly, studying helps children to learn discipline and good habits, such as sitting still, listening to teachers and following rules.
On the other hand, other people believe that young children should spend most of their time playing. In my opinion, this view is better. Firstly, playing is a natural way for children to learn. When they play, they use their imagination, solve problems and learn about the world around them. For example, when children build things with blocks, they learn about shapes and balance. Secondly, playing with other children helps them to develop social skills, such as sharing, cooperating and communicating. Thirdly, if young children have to study too much, they may feel stressed and lose interest in learning. Childhood is a short time, and children should enjoy it.
In my opinion, young children should mainly learn through play, and formal education can start later, when they are about six or seven years old.
In conclusion, although early formal education has some benefits, I agree that young children should spend most of their time playing, because it helps them to learn naturally and develop important skills.
