Some people believe that children should be encouraged to compete, while others think that children who learn to cooperate will become more useful adults. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my own opinion.
On the one hand, some people think competition is good for children. Firstly, competition motivates children to work harder and do their best. For example, when there is a competition in class, students study more because they want to win. Secondly, competition prepares children for adult life. In the future, they will have to compete with other people to get into a good university or to get a good job. If they learn to compete when they are young, they will be more confident and successful. Thirdly, competition teaches children how to deal with failure. When they lose, they learn to try again and improve.
On the other hand, other people believe that cooperation is more important. In most jobs, people have to work in teams, share ideas and help each other. For example, doctors, engineers and businesspeople usually work with many colleagues to complete a project. Children who learn to cooperate will have good communication and teamwork skills. Moreover, too much competition can be harmful for children. It can make them feel stressed and anxious, and it can make them selfish or jealous of their classmates.
In my opinion, children should learn both competition and cooperation. Healthy competition can motivate them, but cooperation is more important, because it helps them to build good relationships and work well with others in the future.
In conclusion, both competition and cooperation have benefits for children. I believe that parents and teachers should teach children to cooperate, while also encouraging some friendly competition.
