Today, international tourism is one of the biggest industries in the world. Some people believe that it causes tension between people from different cultures instead of helping them to understand each other. I disagree with this opinion, although I accept that tourism can sometimes cause problems.
On the one hand, international tourism can sometimes create tension. Some tourists do not respect local customs and traditions. For example, they may wear inappropriate clothes when visiting temples, make a lot of noise or drink too much alcohol in public. This can make local people angry. In addition, in some popular tourist places, there are too many tourists, which causes traffic jams, pollution and higher prices for local people. For example, in some European cities, residents have protested against tourists because rents have become too expensive. Some local people also feel that their culture is being changed to entertain tourists.
On the other hand, I believe that tourism mostly helps people from different cultures to understand each other. When people travel to other countries, they can see how people live, try local food, learn about history and talk to local people. This helps them to understand and respect other cultures and to change their wrong ideas or stereotypes. For example, many people who visit Vietnam are surprised by how friendly the people are. Similarly, local people can also learn about other cultures by meeting tourists. Moreover, tourism brings money and jobs to local communities, which can improve relationships.
In my opinion, the problems caused by tourism can be solved if tourists learn about local customs before they travel and governments manage tourism carefully.
In conclusion, although international tourism can sometimes cause tension, I believe it mainly helps people from different cultures to understand each other.
