Some people believe that fatherhood should be considered as important as motherhood. They argue that the idea that women alone decide whether to have babies leads to the idea that women alone are responsible for raising children. I agree with this opinion.
Firstly, both parents are responsible for having a baby, so both should be responsible for raising it. In many societies, people still think that taking care of children is mainly the mother's job, while the father's job is to earn money. As a result, many mothers have to do most of the work at home, such as feeding, bathing and teaching children, even when they also have a full-time job. This is unfair and very tiring for women.
Secondly, children need both their mother and their father. Research shows that children whose fathers are involved in their lives usually do better at school, have more confidence and have fewer behaviour problems. Fathers can teach children different things and be good role models. For example, my father always helped me with my homework and played football with me, and this made our relationship very close.
Thirdly, when fathers share childcare, mothers can continue their careers. Many women stop working or work part-time after having children, because they have to take care of them. If fathers do more at home, women can have more opportunities at work, which is good for gender equality and for the economy.
However, in many countries, it is still difficult for fathers to take care of their children, because they have long working hours and short paternity leave. Governments and companies should give fathers longer paternity leave and more flexible working hours.
In conclusion, I agree that fatherhood should be emphasised as much as motherhood, because raising children is the responsibility of both parents, and it is good for children, mothers and society.
