Some people believe that all levels of education, including primary, secondary and university education, should be free for everyone and paid for by the government. I partly agree with this statement. I think primary and secondary education should be free, but university education should not be completely free.
On the one hand, I strongly agree that primary and secondary education should be free. Basic education is a right for every child, whether they are rich or poor. Children need to learn to read, write and do mathematics to have a good life in the future. If schools are not free, many poor families cannot afford to send their children to school, and these children will have fewer opportunities. In addition, educated people help the country to develop, because they can get better jobs, pay more taxes and contribute to society.
On the other hand, I do not think that university education should be completely free. Firstly, university education is very expensive, and if the government pays for everyone, it will need a lot of money. This money may come from higher taxes or from cutting spending on other important areas, such as healthcare. Secondly, university graduates usually earn more money than other people, so it is fair that they pay part of the cost of their education. Thirdly, if university is free, some students may not take their studies seriously, because they do not have to pay anything.
In my opinion, the government should pay for primary and secondary education, but for university education, students should pay part of the fees. However, the government should give scholarships and loans to poor students, so that everyone who is talented can go to university.
In conclusion, I agree that primary and secondary education should be free, but I disagree that university education should be completely free for everyone.
