The gap between rich and poor countries seems to be getting bigger. In this essay, I will suggest some ways to reduce this gap and explain whether I think rich countries have a duty to help poor countries in every way.
There are several ways to reduce the wealth gap. Firstly, education is very important. If people in poor countries have better education, they can get better jobs and help their country to develop. Rich countries can help by building schools, training teachers and giving scholarships to students from poor countries. Secondly, fair trade can help. Many poor countries sell raw materials such as coffee, rice and cotton at very low prices, while rich countries sell expensive products. If rich countries remove trade barriers and pay fair prices, poor countries can earn more money. Thirdly, poor countries need better infrastructure, such as roads, electricity and clean water, to attract investment and develop their economies. Finally, the governments of poor countries should fight corruption, so that money is used properly.
In my opinion, developed countries have a duty to help developing countries, but not in every way. Firstly, many rich countries became rich partly because they used resources from poor countries in the past, so they should help them now. Secondly, problems in poor countries, such as diseases, wars and climate change, can affect the whole world. However, rich countries should not control poor countries or make all their decisions. Developing countries must also take responsibility for their own development. Moreover, if rich countries give too much aid, poor countries may become dependent on it.
In conclusion, the wealth gap can be reduced through education, fair trade and better infrastructure. Developed countries have a duty to help, but developing countries must also work hard to improve their own situation.
