The government has announced that it will build a new university, and some people think that my community would be a good place for it. Building a university in my community would bring many advantages, but there would also be some disadvantages. In this essay, I will compare them.
There are several advantages of having a new university in my community. Firstly, young people in my area could study at university without moving to a big city. At the moment, many students have to move to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, which is very expensive for their families. Secondly, the university would create many jobs, not only for teachers and staff, but also for local people who work in shops, restaurants and rental houses. Thousands of students would spend money in the area, which would help local businesses. Thirdly, the university could improve the community in other ways. It might build new libraries, sports facilities and roads that local people could also use. It could also organise cultural events and give local people the chance to take short courses.
However, there would also be some disadvantages. Firstly, the population would increase quickly, so there would be more traffic and noise, and the area would become more crowded. Secondly, the prices of houses and rent might go up, because many students and staff would need somewhere to live. This would be difficult for local people with low incomes. Thirdly, building a large university would need a lot of land, so some farmland or green areas might be destroyed. In addition, some local people worry that students may cause problems, such as noisy parties late at night.
In conclusion, building a new university in my community would have both advantages and disadvantages. However, I believe that the advantages, especially education and jobs, are greater than the disadvantages.
