Nowadays, many childhood diseases can be prevented by vaccines. Some people think that the law should make parents vaccinate their children, while others believe that parents should have the right to choose. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my opinion.

On the one hand, some people believe that parents should have the right to decide. They think that parents know what is best for their own children, and the government should not control their decisions. Some parents are worried about the side effects of vaccines, and some have religious beliefs that do not allow vaccination. In their opinion, forcing parents to vaccinate their children is against their personal freedom.

On the other hand, many people think that vaccination should be required by law. Firstly, vaccines protect children from dangerous diseases such as measles, polio and whooping cough, which can cause serious illness or even death. Secondly, vaccination does not only protect one child but also the whole community. If most people are vaccinated, diseases cannot spread easily, and this protects babies and sick people who cannot be vaccinated. However, if many parents choose not to vaccinate their children, diseases can come back. For example, in recent years, there have been outbreaks of measles in some countries because fewer children were vaccinated.

In my opinion, parents should be required by law to vaccinate their children, except when children have medical reasons. The health of the whole community is more important than personal choice.

In conclusion, although some people believe that parents should have the right to choose, I think that vaccination should be compulsory, because it protects both children and society from dangerous diseases.

Vaccines have made it possible to prevent many serious childhood diseases. However, there is debate about whether parents should be legally required to vaccinate their children or whether they should be free to decide for themselves. In my view, vaccination against common diseases should be compulsory, with exceptions only for medical reasons.

Those who oppose compulsory vaccination argue that it violates parents' right to make decisions about their children's health. Some parents are concerned about possible side effects, while others object for religious or philosophical reasons. They believe that, in a free society, the state should not force people to undergo medical treatment against their will, and that compulsion may increase public distrust of health authorities.

However, I believe that the arguments for compulsory vaccination are much stronger. Vaccines are rigorously tested and have been proven to be safe and highly effective, and the risks of serious side effects are extremely small compared with the dangers of the diseases themselves. More importantly, vaccination is not only an individual choice, because it affects the whole community. When a high proportion of the population is vaccinated, "herd immunity" prevents diseases from spreading, protecting those who cannot be vaccinated, such as newborn babies and people with weakened immune systems. When vaccination rates fall, outbreaks can occur, as has happened with measles in several countries in recent years.
