In the last 100 years, there have been many important discoveries, such as computers, the internet, antibiotics and vaccines. In my opinion, the discovery that has been most beneficial for people in my country, Vietnam, is antibiotics. In this essay, I will explain why.

Firstly, antibiotics have saved millions of lives. Before antibiotics were discovered, many people died from infections that are easy to treat today, such as pneumonia, tuberculosis and infected wounds. Even a small cut could become very dangerous. After penicillin was discovered by Alexander Fleming in 1928, doctors were able to cure these diseases. In my country, in the past, many children died from infections when they were very young, but now this is much less common.

Secondly, antibiotics made modern medicine possible. Today, doctors can perform operations, such as heart surgery, caesarean sections and organ transplants, because they can use antibiotics to prevent infections after the operation. Without antibiotics, these operations would be very dangerous. For example, my mother had an operation a few years ago, and she was given antibiotics to make sure that she did not get an infection.

Thirdly, antibiotics have helped the economy of my country. When people are healthy, they can go to work and earn money for their families. They also live longer, so they can work and contribute to society for more years. In addition, antibiotics are used in farming to keep animals healthy, which helps farmers to produce more food.

However, people should use antibiotics carefully, because using too many antibiotics can make them less effective.

In conclusion, I believe that antibiotics are the most beneficial discovery of the last 100 years for people in my country, because they have saved many lives and made modern medicine possible.

Bài mẫu band 7.0

313 từ. So với bài 6.0: lập luận sâu hơn, từ vựng chính xác và đa dạng hơn, câu phức dùng tự nhiên hơn.

The past century has seen remarkable scientific and technological progress, from the invention of computers to space exploration. However, in my view, the discovery that has brought the greatest benefits to people in my country, Vietnam, is antibiotics, as they have dramatically improved health, extended life expectancy and made modern medicine possible.

The most obvious benefit of antibiotics is the number of lives they have saved. Before Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin in 1928, bacterial infections such as pneumonia, tuberculosis and septicaemia were frequently fatal, and even minor injuries could lead to life-threatening complications. In developing countries like mine, where living conditions were often crowded and sanitation was poor, these diseases spread easily and caused high rates of infant and child mortality. The widespread availability of antibiotics has transformed this situation, contributing to a significant rise in life expectancy over the past few decades.

In addition, antibiotics are the foundation of many other medical advances. Surgery, from routine procedures such as appendectomies and caesarean sections to complex operations like organ transplants, depends on antibiotics to prevent infection. Cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, which weaken the immune system, would also be far more dangerous without them. In my own family, my grandfather recovered from a serious lung infection a few years ago thanks to antibiotic treatment, something that would have been impossible a century ago.
