Some people think that the best way to learn about life is by listening to advice from family and friends, while others believe that personal experience is the best teacher. Both ways have advantages. In this essay, I will compare them and explain why I prefer learning from personal experience.
Learning from the advice of family and friends has several advantages. Firstly, our parents, grandparents and older friends have a lot of life experience, so they can give us useful advice about many things, such as studying, choosing a job or managing money. Secondly, listening to advice can help us to avoid mistakes. For example, my father told me not to borrow money from friends to buy expensive things, because it can damage friendships. By following his advice, I avoided this problem. Thirdly, it saves time, because we do not have to learn everything by ourselves.
On the other hand, learning from personal experience also has many advantages. Firstly, the lessons we learn from our own experience are usually remembered for a long time, because we feel the results ourselves. For example, when I was a student, I did not prepare well for an important exam and failed it. This experience taught me the importance of studying hard much better than any advice. Secondly, every person and situation is different, so advice from others may not always be suitable for us. Thirdly, personal experience helps us to become more independent and confident, because we learn to solve problems by ourselves.
In my opinion, personal experience is the better way to learn about life, because the lessons are deeper and more meaningful. However, we should also listen to advice from family and friends, especially when making important decisions.
In conclusion, both ways of learning about life have advantages, but I prefer learning from personal experience.
