Computers are being used more and more in education, and some people believe that soon there will be no need for teachers in the classroom. I disagree with this opinion. Although computers are very useful for learning, I believe that teachers will always be necessary.
On the one hand, it is true that computers have changed education a lot. Students can use computers and the internet to find information, watch video lessons, do exercises and even take whole courses online. For example, many students today learn English or mathematics by using apps and websites. Computers can also let students learn at their own speed and give them instant feedback on their answers. In addition, online learning is often cheaper and more convenient, because students can study anywhere and at any time.
On the other hand, I believe that computers cannot replace teachers. Firstly, teachers do not only give information. They also explain difficult ideas in different ways, answer students' questions and notice when students do not understand. A computer cannot understand students' feelings or problems as well as a teacher can. Secondly, teachers motivate and encourage students. Many students, especially young children, need someone to guide them and check that they are working. Without a teacher, many students would lose interest and stop studying. Thirdly, teachers help students to develop social skills and good values, such as respect, teamwork and responsibility. These things are difficult to learn from a computer. For example, my favourite teacher at high school not only taught me literature but also encouraged me when I had problems.
In my opinion, computers should be used as a tool to help teachers, not to replace them.
In conclusion, I disagree that there will soon be no role for teachers in the classroom, because teachers provide guidance, motivation and support that computers cannot.
