The maps show how the city of Nelson has changed from 2000 to today.
Overall, the city has become more modern with many new buildings and facilities. Some old places were removed or moved to new locations, and transport in the city has also changed.
In 2000, there was a university in the north and some trees in the north-east. The train station was in the west and there was an old market in the south-west, next to the city centre. A road went through the south of the city, and the port was near the sea.
Today, the university is still in the same place, but a hall of residence has been built next to it. The trees have been cut down and a new shopping centre was built there. The old train station and the old market have disappeared, and a new shop is in the west. A new train station is now north of the city centre, and there is a tramline connect it to the university. The city centre now has a bike rental scheme, and there is a new covered market on the east side. The road became a street for pedestrians only, and a restaurant and some bars and clubs were built near the port.
