In many countries, a lot of people are leaving the countryside and moving to cities. As a result, the population in rural areas is getting smaller. In my opinion, this is mainly a negative development, although it also has some good points.

On the one hand, there are some positive effects. People who move to cities can find better jobs with higher salaries. They can also have better education and health care, because cities usually have more schools and hospitals. For young people, living in a city gives them more chances to develop their careers and have a modern life.

On the other hand, I think the negative effects are more serious. Firstly, when too many people move to cities, the cities become overcrowded. This causes many problems, such as traffic jams, air pollution and high house prices. For example, in big cities like Ho Chi Minh City or Jakarta, traffic is very bad and many people live in small and expensive apartments. Secondly, the countryside also has problems when young people leave. There are not enough workers for farms, so food production may decrease. Only old people stay in the villages, and some villages become empty. Moreover, traditional culture in rural areas may disappear because young people do not live there anymore.

To solve this problem, the government should invest more in rural areas, for example by building schools, hospitals and creating jobs, so people do not need to move to cities.

In conclusion, although moving to cities can bring better jobs and services for some people, I believe it is a negative development because it causes problems for both cities and the countryside.

Across the world, increasing numbers of people are leaving rural areas in search of opportunities in cities, leading to a decline in the countryside population. Although this trend offers certain benefits to individuals, I believe that, overall, it is a negative development because of the problems it creates for both urban and rural communities.

Admittedly, migration to cities can improve people's lives. Urban areas generally offer a wider range of employment opportunities, higher wages and better access to education and healthcare. For many young people from poor rural backgrounds, moving to a city is a way to escape poverty and achieve upward social mobility. In addition, concentrating people in cities can make it more efficient for governments to provide services such as public transport and utilities.

However, the disadvantages of this trend are more significant. Rapid urbanisation often leads to overcrowding, as city infrastructure struggles to keep up with population growth. This results in traffic congestion, air pollution, housing shortages and, in many developing countries, the growth of slums. At the same time, rural areas suffer as young and skilled people move away. Villages are left with ageing populations, farms experience labour shortages, and local schools and businesses may close. Over time, traditional rural cultures and ways of life may disappear.
