The table shows the results of a study about why adults in the UK went to arts events 20 years ago, 10 years ago and today.
Overall, the most common reason for going to arts events was to see a specific performer or artist in all three periods. The percentage of people who went with children increased a lot, while the percentage who went for a special occasion decreased.
Wanting to see a specific performer or artist was the main reason. It was 58% 20 years ago, fell slightly to 55% 10 years ago, and is 56% today, so it did not change much.
On the other hand, the other reasons changed more. Only 9% of adults went to arts events to accompany children 20 years ago, but this rose to 15% 10 years ago and 24% today. In contrast, special occasions or celebrations was 27% 20 years ago, but it dropped to 20% and then to only 9% today. The percentage of people who went for work or business also increased, from 6% to 10% and then 11%.
