The line graph shows the energy consumption in the USA by different types of fuel from 1980, with predictions until 2030. The figures are in quadrillion units.
Overall, petrol and oil was the most used fuel in all years, and it is expected to continue to increase. Coal and natural gas were the second and third, while nuclear, solar and wind, and hydropower were used much less.
In 1980, the consumption of petrol and oil was about 35 quadrillion units. It fell slightly to about 31 in 1985, but after that it increased steadily to about 40 in 2005. It is expected to reach nearly 50 in 2030.
Natural gas was about 20 units in 1980 and coal was 16. Both of them increased to around 22 to 23 units by 2000. After that, coal is predicted to rise more quickly and reach about 32 units in 2030, while natural gas will stay at about 25 units. The other three fuels were all at around 3 to 4 units in 1980. Nuclear energy will increase to about 8 units, solar and wind will rise to about 6 units, but hydropower will stay at about 3 units.
