The bar chart shows the estimated oil production capacity of six Gulf countries, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, in 1990, 2000, 2005 and 2010. The figures are in millions of barrels per day.
Overall, the oil production capacity of most countries increased during the period. Saudi Arabia had by far the highest capacity in all years, while Qatar had the lowest.
Saudi Arabia's capacity was about 8.6 million barrels per day in 1990. It increased to about 9.4 million in 2000 and then rose sharply to 12.5 million in 2005. In 2010, it was expected to reach about 14.6 million barrels per day.
The other countries had much lower capacities. Iran had about 3.2 million barrels in 1990, and this increased to about 4.4 million in 2010. Iraq and Kuwait also grew steadily, from about 2.1 and 1.7 million to 3.9 and 3.4 million. The UAE stayed at 2.5 million in 1990 and 2000, but then increased to about 3.7 million in 2010.
